About the school
Emmanuel College is a Prep-12 co-educational school on the Gold Coast, Queensland, with a strong focus on using technology to enhance the learning experience.
Why would you recommend Valor's program?
Valor's training platform provides step-by-step written and video guides for teachers and coaches to effectively coach their students, and non-dependent on the coaches level of expertise. Valor draws on their team of highly-skilled and experienced gamers and coaches who have a deep understanding on the steps needed to help a player improve. The training program covers a wide range of aspects crucial for competitive gaming success. From improving mechanical skills to developing teamwork and communication, their holistic approach drives the development of a well-rounded player.
What impact did Valor have on your coaching role or coaching support staff?
Valor gave me confidence and knowledge to assist in the skill progression of my students, particularly in a game that I'm not that confident with myself. Being able to draw on experienced and high-level players, and being given a proven training format has set me up for success as a coach, and success for my students to improve in their game play.
What impact did Valor have on your players?
Our students have shown a much greater focus on their training and wanting to improve as a player. They enjoy the challenges set within the program and can see their progression across the weeks of training. Students love to just 'play' the games, but they don't tend to improve with the gameplay alone because they're not intentionally focusing on a skill for improvement. We have found Valor has been able to extend the students who are already skilled in their gameplay, but also lift the level of the students who aren't as naturally skilled in the particular game. Throughout the program, the students have had a better understanding of the mechanics and skills that underpin each game and are able to watch examples of gameplay by highly skilled professional players. This has not only motivated them to improve but to help the others in their team improve as well. Our students have also enjoyed making videos of their own gameplay to share with the team on training afternoons.
